Low Signal Mode

Keep staff protected in low and no signal areas

StaySafe offers more coverage than any other lone worker app

StaySafe keeps staff safe wherever they work or travel

We all experience poor mobile signal from time to time so we know employers can be concerned about how to keep employees protected in these circumstances.

To help keep you connected, our lone worker app comes with an automatic Low Signal Mode, which means that lone workers are protected even in areas with limited connectivity.

How can StaySafe protect staff in areas with limited connectivity?

StaySafe offers more coverage than any other lone worker app, via our Low Signal Mode which comes as standard for all app users.

When Low Signal Mode is active, the app only needs a single bar of signal to maintain communications with the monitoring hub. In addition, missed check-in alerts still signal in the hub even if the employee has lost signal coverage completely.

How does Low Signal Mode work?

The StaySafe app seamlessly switches between all available connections to offer the very best level of connectivity and protection to your lone working employees.

High speed mobile data and Wi-Fi will always be the StaySafe app’s preferred connection, but in areas where connectivity is limited, Low Signal Mode is automatically activated. While in Low Signal Mode, session communications will continue to be sent to the hub via SMS. Alerts and session functions will continue to operate as usual, with location data updating if an alert is triggered.

High speed data connections such as Wi-Fi, 5G and 4G will always be prioritised by the StaySafe app.

Reduced connectivity

If you or your lone workers operate in areas where a Wi-Fi or data connections are limited, the StaySafe app will automatically switch to Low Signal Mode. While in this mode, session functions and alerts will continue to be sent to the hub via SMS. The users last known location will be shown in the hub and updated when an alert is triggered.

Session Expiry and Missed Check-In alerts do not require connectivity. This means that as long as the employee begins a session while connected, alerts will be sent if they fail to check-in. This provides a no-cost solution when the signal is down.

Session notes

Upon starting a session, the lone worker is able to add notes relating to their work. If they know they will be entering areas with limited connectivity, adding details on their exact location could be particularly useful. Notes can be viewed in the hub to provide information that could help the monitor respond to an alert.

When will I need Low Signal Mode?

For employees who work in well populated, urban areas they will usually be able to make a data connection. However, if they work in rural areas with low levels of connectivity, or in buildings known to have poor coverage, Low Signal Mode is a vital method of communication.

Signal coverage can be reduced in:

For most lone workers in these areas StaySafe’s Low Signal Mode will enable you to continue to monitor their safety effectively.

If your lone workers regularly travel to remote locations where there is no phone signal, StaySafe also works with satellite providers to offer reliable global coverage.

What our customers say about StaySafe

“We chose StaySafe because it was the only solution we found that combines all the key safety features into one product and offers us a fallback if employees’ phones go out of range. The ‘add a note’ feature allows us to monitor travel between locations and home visits. The hub is great, we can accurately locate employees if they trigger an alert or fail to end their session when expected.”

Zieco Skeldon

Assistant Manager, Country and Outback Health

“As a business facing a number of challenges such as low signal and out-of-hours operations, finding a solution that ticked all of our boxes was important. StaySafe not only did exactly that, but they were also very supportive through the set-up and implementation process.”
